Proclamations from City of Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther and Columbus City Council on Nationwide’s 100th anniversary
In honor of Nationwide’s centennial, Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther and the Columbus City Council issued the following proclamations to Nationwide CEO Kirt Walker on April 14, 2026, 100 years to the day the company sold its first policy in 1926.
While accepting the proclamations on behalf of Nationwide employees, customers and partners, Walker provided the following comments:
“As we celebrate our 100th anniversary, we are humbled and grateful that Mayor Ginther and Columbus City Council have chosen to recognize this milestone and Nationwide’s contributions to this wonderful city that we all call home.
Above all else, Nationwide is a protection company, and that protection extends to the communities where we live and work.
Our commitment to the Columbus community, through the Nationwide Foundation, has focused on supporting the wellbeing of children and families from around the country and world, but especially here in our own backyard through support of Nationwide Children’s Hospital. This year, Nationwide associates have a goal to volunteer 100,000 hours collectively in their local neighborhoods, which will help Columbus residents access food, medical care, emergency shelter and so much more.
Strong families build strong neighborhoods, which build strong cities. Nationwide has intentionally focused on making transformative contributions to Columbus, both in times of need and prosperity.
It is an incredible honor to be recognized for this milestone. Our roots in Columbus are foundational to the modern mutual company we’ve grown into over the last 100 years. It will continue to have an outsized impact on how Nationwide develops over the next 100 years. Thank you, Mayor Ginther, and thank you Columbus City Council.”
