Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship raises millions to drive pediatric cancer innovation

Since its inception in 2007, the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship has been a springboard for the careers of many professional golfers, but its significance extends well beyond the greens at The Ohio State University Golf Club—Scarlet Course. This premier Korn Ferry Tour finals event drives an important philanthropic mission – to raise money for pediatric cancer research and treatment at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

On December 14, tournament and hospital officials gathered to announce that the 2023 Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship raised a record total $3,518,710 million for central Ohio charitable organizations, including $3,307,331 million for pediatric cancer research and treatment at Nationwide Children’s Hospital. This marks the third consecutive year in which the $3 million mark has been exceeded. Over the last 17 years, the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship has raised more than $25.6 million in support of the hospital’s pediatric cancer program.

"This tournament continues to set the bar in terms of fundraising on the Korn Ferry Tour and we’re tremendously thankful to the many partners and patrons who contribute to its unparalleled success,” said John Carter, president and chief operating officer for Nationwide Financial and chairman of Champions of the Community, the host organization for the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship. “The collective efforts of our supporters, tournament staff and volunteers, along with the participation of our Patient Champions, are what make this event so impactful year after year.”

“The Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship makes a difference for our hospital, but it also has an impact for children with cancer all over the world,” said Tim Robinson, CEO of Nationwide Children’s Hospital. “For 17 years, the tournament has supported care here – and supported our research that has improved cancer care everywhere. Nationwide and the Championship’s sponsors, volunteers and spectators have once again added to a remarkable legacy of generosity.”

Since 2011, Nationwide’s sports marketing partnerships have contributed more than $60 million to Nationwide Children’s. Beyond the golf-related fundraising from Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship, Legends Luncheon and 11 years as presenting sponsor of the Memorial Tournament, additional support comes from partnerships with the Nationwide Children’s Hospital Columbus Marathon & ½ Marathon, Columbus Crew and Dale Earnhardt Jr.
