Nationwide’s Charity Challenge kicks off today

Contest promotes and supports the nominees for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award presented by Nationwide

Columbus, OH – The kickoff of Nationwide’s 8th annual Charity Challenge gives this year’s Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year nominees a chance to score additional dollars for their chosen charities.

Nationwide, the presenting sponsor of the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award, is inviting fans to show their support for their favorite nominee during the annual social media campaign that runs now through January 8, 2023.

“The Charity Challenge is a fun way to give fans a voice in support of their favorite NFL Man of the Year nominees,” said Ramon Jones, executive vice president and chief marketing officer at Nationwide. “The friendly competition for additional donations also serves to raise awareness of the causes and organizations that inspired these players to give back and make a difference in their communities.”

Fans can vote for their favorite nominees on Twitter by using the hashtag #WPMOYChallenge and including the nominee’s last name and/or his Twitter handle anywhere within the tweet. All eligible tweets during the “double vote” window on January 3 and 4 will count twice.

The player whose name is used the most during the contest with #WPMOYChallenge will receive a $25,000 contribution to his designated charity, while the second and third place finishers will receive $10,000 and $5,000 donations, respectively, all courtesy of Nationwide.

The winners will be announced on Tuesday, Jan. 10. Hashtag information, official rules and the Charity Challenge scoreboard can be found at nfl.com/manoftheyear.

New Orleans Saints safety Tyrann Mathieu won last year’s Charity Challenge while with the Kansas City Chiefs. The second and third place finishers were Indianapolis Colts cornerback Kenny Moore II and Minnesota Vikings defensive tackle Harrison Phillips, who won while with the Buffalo Bills.

The 2022 NFL season marks the ninth year of Nationwide’s sponsorship of the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award. Since 2014, Nationwide has contributed more than $1.5 million to the charitable foundations represented by the various nominees.

The winner of the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award presented by Nationwide will be announced during the NFL Honors broadcast on Thursday, February 9 at 9 p.m. ET on NBC.
