Nationwide recognized in Companies That Care list

PEOPLE magazine highlights Nationwide’s associate aid and social justice efforts.

For the fifth-year running, PEOPLE magazine has named Nationwide to its 2021 100 Companies That Care list. Nationwide ranked 31, four spots higher than in 2020.

The list is based on a survey of 4.5 million U.S. employees’ experiences of how their workplaces have made a difference in their lives and in their communities. Rankings also reflect the generosity of each organization's benefits, philanthropic and community support.

The magazine’s September 13 issue notes how the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted Nationwide’s efforts to put people first by supporting their employees and surrounding their communities. In particular, the magazine calls attention to the company’s Associates Helping Associates program, which enables employees to contribute to a fund that provides financial relief to fellow employees affected by natural disasters, domestic violence and health-related emergencies.

The magazine also calls out how Nationwide’s ongoing support of social justice efforts factored into this year’s ranking, noting its partnerships with the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, Equal Justice Initiative and the National Fair Housing Alliance's "Keys Unlock Dreams" initiative, which strives to give all Americans safe, affordable housing.

“We are all so proud of this recognition,” says Vinita Clements, chief HR officer. “Our No. 1 value is ‘we value people.’ We will always put people first, and this was magnified this past year and a half as we faced the challenges brought on by the pandemic and the social justice movement. Through our Associates Helping Associates program, social justice commitments and other important initiatives, we have continued to care deeply about our communities and each other and deliver on our mission of providing extraordinary care.”
