Nationwide Expands Technology Operations to Fourth Campus

Nationwide is expanding its global technology footprint with the launch of a new campus in Hyderabad, India — a move that enables the Fortune 100 financial services and insurance giant to meet increased business demand and aggressive growth goals.

Hyderabad becomes the company’s fourth technology hub, joining existing campuses in Columbus, Ohio; Des Moines, Iowa; and Scottsdale, Ariz.

The expansion, according to Chief Technology Officer Jim Fowler, is part of a global capability strategy introduced last year, aimed at increasing speed, scale and innovation across the enterprise.

Fowler also announced that the technology team will add 500 new positions across the four campuses. Those positions are expected to be filled within the next couple of years and demonstrate the company’s desire for technology-based business solutions.

“This is more than a new location — it’s a strategic step forward,” Fowler said. “The Earth keeps spinning, and our work doesn’t stop. We exist to serve our customers, and many of our strategic customers are global companies that expect us to have global operational capabilities."

He emphasized that the Hyderabad team will allow Nationwide to provide 24/7 technology support for its growing business, reduce reliance on third-party contractors and tap into India’s deep pool of tech talent.

Nationwide is one of many U.S. companies expanding its global technology operations to increase agility, including several of Nationwide’s peers in central Ohio and the insurance industry. Hyderabad is a major tech hub that hosts operations for countless other U.S.-based firms, including key software partners in the insurance and financial services industries.

The company recently named Vikas Jaswal as the on-site leader for the Hyderabad campus. Jaswal, formerly at Northern Trust and Fidelity, will report directly to Fowler and join Nationwide’s executive leadership team.

Jaswal has experience building and scaling new campuses both inside the United States and internationally. Most recently, he spent five years as a senior vice president with Northern Trust, where he led development of the financial services firm’s team in India and Manila. Prior to that, he served in several leadership roles during 17 years with Fidelity, where he successfully managed high-performing teams across the globe.

Fowler described the Hyderabad campus as the “first steps of a multi-year journey” to strengthen Nationwide’s capabilities for associates, partners and customers.

“We’ve had technology-focused work in India for some time,” Fowler said. “This evolution allows us to strengthen that approach with a formal Nationwide presence and workforce as we continue to evolve with the industry and partner with key software providers.”
