Nationwide Excess & Surplus launches Property Unit

Industry veteran Tonya Courtney will lead Nationwide’s newest E&S business

Nationwide has appointed Industry veteran Tonya Courtney to lead its new Excess & Surplus Brokerage Property unit with the goal of opening for business in the second half of the year. This strategic initiative highlights Nationwide’s commitment to delivering tailored solutions for the evolving and complex demands of the commercial property insurance market, enhancing its already strong E&S Brokerage Casualty portfolio.

Tonya joined Nationwide in December with more than 30 years of experience in commercial lines insurance managing complex property portfolios, fostering wholesale relationships, and driving underwriting excellence. Under her leadership, the new E&S Brokerage Property unit will focus on providing tailored solutions for hard-to-place property risks across various industries. She will report to David Nelson, Executive Vice President, E&S Wholesale at Nationwide.

“Tonya’s vision and proven track record make her the ideal leader to launch this important endeavor. This initiative demonstrates our unwavering dedication to empowering businesses to navigate the unique challenges of the E&S property space with confidence and agility,” said Nelson.

The Nationwide E&S Brokerage Property unit will deliver a comprehensive suite of non-admitted wholesale products and services, designed to address high-risk scenarios requiring specialized underwriting expertise. With a focus on exceptional service and extraordinary care, this new division aims to become a trusted partner for select brokers seeking innovative risk management solutions for their commercial property exposures.

Prior to joining Nationwide, Tonya served as Regional Vice President for Arch Insurance Company, where she led the Southeast Region E&S Property team. In this role, she oversaw the underwriting strategy and delivery of property insurance products and services through the wholesale distribution channel.
