Giving back to our communities

Volunteerism is an integral part of Nationwide’s culture. In recent months, various volunteer activities led by teams across the company have showcased their commitment to fighting hunger and making a positive impact in their communities.

“It’s fun to see all of the employee volunteers out at Nationwide take-over days,” said Tim Frommeyer, Nationwide’s Chief Financial Officer, and executive sponsor of Nationwide’s Community Giving campaign. “The energy is amazing. It’s also an important reminder of the difference we are making together for our communities.”

Food banks play a vital role in supporting communities by providing essential food and resources to those in need. The impact of these food banks is magnified when employees come together to volunteer their time. In Central Ohio, Raleigh, N.C. and San Antonio, Texas, teams across Nationwide held “Take Over” days and showed up for their communities.

At the food banks, volunteers worked together to sort and pack produce, nonperishable foods and household items. They worked to prepare these items for distribution to families in need. They also spent time building care packages for seniors.

In Central Ohio, more than 160 leaders and employees gave their time at the Mid-Ohio Food Collective. Their efforts resulted in the packaging of over 1,500 boxes of food within a span of two days.

In Raleigh, Nationwide employees gave their time at the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina. Their time equated to 15 full-time employees at the Food Bank.

In San Antonio, employees gathered at Gustafson Stadium for a mass distribution event in collaboration with the food bank, successfully serving over 1,100 Texas families.

Food banks are not the only place employees are volunteering together. Leaders in Central Ohio gave their time to St. Vincent and Furniture with Heart in Central Ohio. The leadership team volunteered by getting the St. Vincent building ready for summer and assembling furniture at Furniture with Heart.

Additionally, in San Antonio employees helped frame walls for homes with Habitat for Humanity during a panel build event sponsored by The Nationwide Foundation. And over 40 employees gave their time at the Texas Diaper Bank packaging supplies and preparing donations for families in need.
