Nationwide wins Town of Gilbert, Az., Deferred Retirement Compensation Plan

Nationwide and Town of Gilbert Navigated Social-Distancing Challenges to Transition Plan Seamlessly

Columbus, OH - Nationwide’s retirement plans business is pleased to announce it will now provide education and recordkeeping for the Town of Gilbert, Arizona’s, 457 and 401(a) deferred compensation plans.

The plan has nearly $40 million in assets under management and 700 plan participants.

Other than one in-person meeting held in February with plan representatives the entire transition and participant educational process was done virtually due to shelter-in-place as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

“Given the circumstances related to COVID-19 and the inability to conduct meetings and workshops in person, we’re proud that we could seamlessly transition the plan to form this partnership with the Town of Gilbert,” said Scott Ramey, senior vice president of Retirement Plans Distribution for Nationwide. “We look forward to working with them to provide support and services to help their plan participants prepare for a financially secure retirement.”

In addition to recordkeeping and administrative services, Nationwide will provide participants with holistic financial planning services and access to the online My Interactive Retirement Planner, designed to engage and motivate employees to prepare for retirement.

“Nationwide was able to seamlessly shift to virtual meetings that allowed for participant questions through chat and was a great success,” said Kristen Drew, deputy chief people officer, benefits for the Town of Gilbert. “Their ability to continue to offer excellent customer service to large group meetings as well as individual conversations via technology is much appreciated. We could not have predicted this pandemic would hit right during our transition to Nationwide but we are very happy with their flexible response to our needs.”
