In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, Nationwide is celebrating its year-round commitment to its employees’ health and well-being through its recent recognition as a Best Employer, presented by the Business Group on Health.

In its 20th year, the award recognizes companies for an exemplary commitment to advancing employee well-being through comprehensive and innovative benefits and initiatives.

While overall health and well-being are embedded in Nationwide’s culture, the company is especially proud of its advancements in mental health offerings. As part of this year’s recognition, Nationwide was also one of 10 winners recognized for Excellence in Mental Health for demonstrating concrete impact for its workforce and continued improvements to already robust programs year over year.

In 2024, Nationwide enhanced its Employee Assistance Program by adding a concierge service to help employees find skilled mental health professionals. Leaders across the enterprise also promote mental health awareness by participating in panels and sharing experiences to normalize self-care discussions to foster a supportive environment.

“Nationwide's commitment to mental health is a priority, and we are proud of the strides we've made in enhancing our offerings,” said Tina Thornton, Nationwide’s associate vice president of well-being and safety. “Being recognized as a Best Employer by the Business Group on Health highlights our dedication to advancing employee well-being through comprehensive and innovative benefits. Our focus on mental health awareness, and overall health, is integral to a healthy and productive workplace.”

As part of the company’s ongoing commitment to holistic well-being, Thornton also shared that Nationwide has a variety of new initiatives in progress to continue to enhance the overall employee well-being experience.

Launched earlier this year, the company’s new “well-being vision” can help guide employees in setting and achieving personal goals, helping them align their professional and personal aspirations and develop plans to achieve the vision of their future selves. Offered in both self-guided and instructor-led formats, employees can choose a path that works for them and connect with others across the company while doing so.

In just a few months, employee response to the program has been very positive. Check out what some employees have said after completing their well-being vision.

“We’re excited about the feedback we’ve received so early in the release of the well-being vision,” said Thornton. “We look forward to the months ahead as more employees get involved and will continue to prioritize personalized experiences so that everyone can access the resources and support when they need it.”
