This summer, 330 students join Nationwide’s internship program

As Ameya Kokate was wrapping up his first semester of his master’s program, he received an offer from Nationwide inviting him to the 2022 internship program.

“I’m delighted for this opportunity to learn from amazing executive leaders and collaborate with peers,” said Kokate.

He is pursuing a master's in business analytics with a major in data science from the University of Texas at Dallas. He’s excited to embrace the opportunities to learn, explore and contribute to this field and society.

Kokate joins a group of more than 300 students embarking on this internship journey at Nationwide for 12 weeks beginning May 16, 2022. Nationwide’s last in-person internship program was held in the summer of 2019 due to the pandemic.

Despite the challenges of the pandemic, Nationwide was able to recruit this year’s participants through new and innovative means, including virtual networking events, virtual job fairs and websites such as Handshake and LinkedIn. While most students will work remotely from wherever they live across the country, more than 80 will utilize a hybrid model, and 28 students will be full-time in office for an in-person experience.

“We are excited to welcome our summer 2022 interns,” said Angela Bretz, chief diversity and talent acquisition officer for Nationwide. “They’ll spend their summer working hands-on assignments that contribute to Nationwide’s success and experience our inclusive culture that’s grounded in our heritage and values.”

This year’s program brings students from hundreds of cities across the nation and boasts great diversity. More than 100 different universities are represented in the program, including historically Black colleges and universities with undergraduate, master’s and doctorate students studying technology, finance, marketing, actuarial, risk management, business and liberal arts. The two largest groups are in Technology (133) and Finance (101) with the rest supporting different businesses units across Nationwide.

The Nationwide internship program also includes apprentice and rotational positions and compensates participants starting at the company-wide minimum pay of $21 an hour. It provides a host of virtual and in-person networking opportunities, experience working with Nationwide employees and access to the company’s Intern Council events. Other perks include access to LinkedIn Learning and the ability to join employee resource groups. Throughout the program, students participate in executive learning sessions, engage with mentors, get hands-on experience and get one step closer to the possibility of full-time employment after graduation.
