Mike Spangler

Mike Spangler is Senior Vice President, Nationwide Financial Investment Management Group. He is also President of Nationwide Funds and Nationwide Securities. Mike has leadership responsibility for all aspects of the Investment Management Group, including portfolio management, investment advisory, broker-dealer, operations, business and product development. He reports to the president and chief operating officer of Nationwide Financial. Mike joined Nationwide and was elected to his current role in 2008. He has more than 25 years of experience in the financial services and asset management industry.

Prior to joining Nationwide, he was a managing director at Morgan Stanley, heading Americas Retail and Intermediary Product Management. Before joining Morgan Stanley, he was president of Touchstone Advisors, Inc. and vice president and director of business operations at Touchstone Investments. His past experience also includes positions at Wachovia Bank, N.A. and Evergreen Investments where he was vice president and director of corporate planning and business development, respectively.

Mike earned a bachelor’s degree with honors and was a college scholar at Elizabethtown College. He serves as vice chair of the board of trustees of the college and chair of the Trusteeship & Governance Committee. He has a master’s degree in business administration from Lehigh University. 

Currently, Mike serves as a board member of Wespath Benefits and Investments, the largest reporting faith-based pension fund in the United States, and Wespath Institutional Investments. He is a board member for the Community Housing Network, which is dedicated to providing permanent supportive housing to create opportunities for residents challenged by mental health conditions, addiction and homelessness. He also serves as the Investment Committee Chair and as a member of the Finance Committee for the Columbus School for Girls.

His past community service includes being a board member for the American Red Cross, Southeastern Pennsylvania Region, and a board member and treasurer of Contact Helpline, Harrisburg, Pa. Spangler, his wife and their four daughters make their home in Columbus, Ohio.
