Latina Style Business Series: Celebrating and empowering the Hispanic Community

The final segment of the four-part series focuses on embracing the extraordinary new collective

In this year’s Latina Style Business Series, entrepreneurship consultant, author of Uncolonized Latinas, and speaker Valeria Aloe aims to help Latinas identify and overcome cultural mindsets that may be holding them back personally and professionally.

In part one of the four-part series titled Cultural Mindsets: Decoded, Aloe discusses the scarcity mindset. In this conversation, Aloe encourages women who may experience lower self-esteem to practice incorporating positive affirmations into their daily routines to help shift the internal narrative. In part two, she reviews the survival mindset which deals with the outdated belief that advocating for yourself may have negative consequences. To overcome limiting personal narratives like being too humble or working too hard without asking for what you need, she provides guidance on how to authentically build your personal brand. Part three outlines the “simpatia” mindset which invites us to avoid uncomfortable or difficult conversations or forces us to go out of our way to keep peaceful relationships. She also provides actionable steps for conflict management.

In the final session, Aloe explores the extraordinary new collective mindset. Throughout this data-driven discussion, she emphasizes what makes the Hispanic culture unique and the importance of empowering each other. She suggests that understanding diversity, healing colorism, and building a new collective are ways that the Hispanic community can come together. In a culture that is not “one size fits all,” Aloe says that building bridges beyond the community are critical. This can be achieved by identifying potential allies, reaching out and asking for their time, and becoming a natural networker.
