Digital series offers actionable insights, tools to improve financial wellness

Hispanic personal finance experts lead Nationwide’s Financial Empowerment Charlas

For many individuals, the fundamentals of personal finance, debt management, and investing can be intimidating to learn, let alone practice. It takes intentionality, discipline, and consistency to attain financial wellness and the journey can be daunting without access to financial education.

To address this need for guidance and equip individuals with easily accessible resources, Nationwide and the Hispanic Heritage Foundation partnered to create Financial Empowerment Charlas (chats), a collection of multimedia content highlighted by a three-part digital series and three virtual Charlas.

The Charlas, hosted by several accomplished Hispanic personal finance experts, offer insights and advice on money management, debt elimination, and wealth mindset best practices.

The video and podcast series features engaging conversation between Tanya Menendez, co-founder and CEO of Snowball Wealth, and Natalie Torres-Haddad, also known as the Financially Savvy Latina, a bilingual podcast host of Financially Savvy in 20 Minutes and international award-winning author.

“It’s important to offer this type of program to a Hispanic audience,” said Torres-Haddad “Our culture teaches us to not talk about…challenges that come around managing money.”

To complement the chats hosted by Tanya and Natalie, Paul Roldán, CEO and co-founder of AllGen Financial Advisors, Inc. and his associate Karen Vergara hosted three virtual Charlas that further explore the theme of financial literacy and offer actionable advice around topics such as:

  • developing a personal spending plan
  • understanding credit
  • building an emergency fund
  • managing risks
  • developing an investment strategy

“Understanding these practices are important to protect your current and future wealth from the mishaps of life,” said Roldán.

The trio of virtual Charlas also contains insights from special guest panelists including Latina Money founder Janet Cruz Padrón, blogger/YouTube financial educator Vivi Schenk and Francisco Javier Arceo, founder and CEO of Unidos.

“Although their individual journeys vary, each of these self-made experts share that their cultural and family experience shaped their perception about money,” said Lu Yarbrough, III, associate vice president of cause and diverse marketing at Nationwide. “Providing financial guidance in this Charla format makes the stories relatable and shows that financial wellness is attainable.”

"We are investing in our community, providing them with the guidance, tools, and support for their lifelong journey in financial wellness, now and in the future,” said HHF President and CEO Antonio Tijerino. "This is an opportunity to take tangible steps to build a stronger legacy for you and your family.”
